4th Biennale Gherdëina
Vernissage at 17th July to October in Ortisei/Val Gardena and art events during this summer in Val Gardena
Val Gardena, 15th April 2014: The fourth Biennale Gherdëina, coming up in Ortisei, presents some important new developments in 2014, starting with the title of the event: "Legno/Wood/Lën".
Curator Luca Beatrice selected five artists to work solely with this material, the best expression of the cultural and creative traditions of the Val Gardena.
In the months leading up to the exhibition, which will open on July 17th and continue until early October in the pedestrian district in central Ortisei, the artists will be working with local businesses and craftspeople on wooden sculptures and installations of great artistic value. Two internationally renowned local artists whose works have beenshown in Austria and Germany, Bruno Walpoth and Willy Verginer, will exhibit their work at the fourth Biennale. Chris Gilmour, a British sculptor who lives in Udine and specialises in cardboard, will try his hand at working with a new material; Sonia Leimer, who is originally from Merano but now lives in Vienna, will display her conceptual interpretation of a traditional theme from the Val Gardena; and Milanese painter and sculptor Velasco Vitali will create a huge balloon sculpture of wood and iron.
