Traffic restrictions Gardenapass
We would like to do a roadtrip from Passo Pordoi- Arabba-Corvara- Colfosco-Passo Sella-Canazei and then to Mazzin. It's around 58 km. We are using the roads SS243 and SS242 and SS48. If we do this round trip using Passa Gardena and Passa Sella after 05PM are there any restrictions in the beginning of september 2026?
We have our hotel at Mazzin.
Sincerely,
Stef

According to the information currently available, a pilot traffic restriction is planned for Passo Gardena from 1 September 2026. The measure is expected to restrict through traffic between Colfosco and Selva di Val Gardena, with exceptions mainly for residents, local hotel guests and authorised vehicles. As your hotel is located in Mazzin, you may not be eligible for an exemption. The restriction is not currently described as ending at 5:00 pm, so the route may also be unavailable in the evening.
No comparable general restriction has been announced for Passo Sella. Please note, however, that on 12 September 2026 all four Sellaronda passes will be closed to motorised traffic from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm for the Sellaronda Bike Day. The roads are scheduled to reopen after 4:00 pm.
As the detailed regulations for the Passo Gardena pilot scheme may still be updated, we recommend checking the official traffic information shortly before your journey.

Instead of an actual closure, only a "virtual" or digital trial run is planned. There will be no physical roadblocks and no fines for vehicles that do not comply with the proposed restriction.
During this trial phase, traffic movements will be closely monitored and evaluated. The data collected will serve as a basis for future traffic-calming measures on the Dolomite passes.
