The Olympic Torch in Val Gardena
The Olympic Torch in Val Gardena
On Wednesday, 28 January 2026, during stage 52, the Olympic Torch will pass through Val Gardena.
The selected torchbearers will start at 8 a.m. in Ortisei at the ‘Lokomotive’ on the Plaza dla Stazion and continue their journey through the pedestrian zone. They will meet ski instructors and groups in traditional costumes in front of the entrance to the permanent art exhibition ‘Art52’.
Specially made Olympic ice torches will be on display along the route. Ten ‘Unika fans’ carved by local artists will be on display in Antoniusplatz. Five of these ‘fans’ were made especially for the Olympic Games and will later be presented during the biathlon competitions in Antholz. The band welcomes the Olympic torch at around 8:15 a.m. near the ‘Villa Park’ hotel with a festive fanfare.
Meanwhile, the relay race on skis will start at the Dantercepies mountain station and lead to the centre of Selva di Val Gardena to the Ciampinoi cable car (8:20 a.m.), continuing along the Sellaronda to the ‘Stone City’, where a skijoring activity is planned. They will be accompanied by the children and young people of the Val Gardena Ski Club, which has produced numerous athletes and champions in past Olympic Games. The torch will then continue its journey over the Sella Pass towards the Fassa Valley, via Canazei, to reach its destination for the day, Cavalese.
Among the torchbearers for Milan–Cortina 2026 will be Carolina Kostner (figure skating, bronze in Sochi 2014) and Isolde Kostner (alpine skiing, two bronze medals in Lillehammer 1994 and silver in Salt Lake City 2002), both from Val Gardena.
