We are planning a trip to the Dolomites this September and would appreciate your assistance regarding the possible traffic restrictions at Passo Gardena.
After staying in San Cassiano, we are planning to travel to Schgaguler Hotel in Castelrotto via Passo Gardena, passing through Ortisei and Alpe di Siusi.
Could you kindly confirm whether we would be permitted to drive through Passo Gardena as planned?
Alternatively, if we were to stay at Adler Dolomiti in Ortisei instead of Schgaguler Hotel, would access through Passo Gardena still be permitted under the proposed restrictions?
We understand that the traffic restrictions may not yet be fully confirmed. Could you also advise when the final regulations and access conditions are expected to be officially announced?

At present, the traffic restrictions for Passo Gardena in September 2026 have not yet been definitively approved. The Province of Bolzano confirmed on 9 July that an experimental limited-traffic zone is still planned for autumn. However, several technical, organisational and legal aspects must still be clarified before the trial can begin.
According to the current proposal, general through traffic would be restricted. Guests staying in municipalities along the access roads to Passo Gardena are expected to be permitted to cross the pass on their arrival and departure days, provided that their vehicle has been registered in advance. These exceptions and the registration procedure have not yet been officially confirmed.
Therefore, the current situation can be summarised as follows:
If you stay at ADLER Dolomiti in Ortisei, access via Passo Gardena should, in principle, be possible on your arrival day under the proposed exemption for overnight guests. However, this cannot yet be guaranteed.
If you stay at Schgaguler Hotel in Castelrotto, the situation is currently less clear because the exact geographical scope of the exemption for hotel guests has not yet been published.
