Traffic restrictions at Gardena Pass
Traffic restrictions at Gardena Pass
The experimental traffic restriction at Gardena Pass, originally scheduled for 1 September 2026, will for the time being not be implemented in the form initially planned. Instead of an actual closure, only a "virtual" or digital test is planned. There will therefore be no physical roadblocks or penalties for vehicles that do not comply with the planned restriction.
During this test phase, traffic flows will be closely monitored and analysed. The data collected will serve as a basis for future traffic-calming measures on the Dolomite passes.
It has yet to be defined in detail how traffic will be regulated from September onwards and what measures will be introduced for summer 2027. The original plan was to designate not only Gardena Pass, but also Sella Pass, Pordoi Pass and Campolongo Pass as traffic-restricted zones for several months. At present, however, these plans have not yet been finalised.
