Ski World Championship 2031 in Val Gardena
### Ski World Championship 2031 in Val Gardena
The highest-ranking winter sports officials of the FIS have made their decision: The Alpine Ski World Championship 2031 will return to Val Gardena after 61 years.
With a shared vision of passion, enthusiasm, and motivation, the Alpine Ski World Championship will once again grace Val Gardena, 61 years after its last appearance. This prestigious event will merge innovation with dedication, passion, and tradition in the heart of the Dolomites, a region synonymous with skiing excellence. The championship will take place in the Val Gardena communities of Selva Gardena, Santa Cristina, and Ortisei, nestled at the foot of the majestic Langkofel. Over the decades, Val Gardena has honed its expertise through the organization of World Cup races, and now, it stands poised to host a Ski World Championship.
Initially, the FIS intended to award only the 2029 Ski World Championship, but it has now also allocated the 2031 championship. Consequently, the 2029 Alpine Ski World Championship will be held in Narvik, Norway, marking its debut there. Two years later, in 2031, the championship will be hosted in Val Gardena. This early allocation of the 2031 championship was unexpected; however, the jury made this decision due to the “exceptionally strong applications.”
Val Gardena is home to one of Italy's most successful ski clubs and numerous athletes who have achieved international acclaim, including Isolde Kostner, Carletto Senoner, Peter Runggaldier, Alex Giorgi, Werner Perathoner, and many others. Current stars such as Alex Vinatzer and the Delago sisters, Nadia and Nicole, also hail from Val Gardena and are making significant impacts in the World Cup as members of the Italian national team. These athletes have brought international recognition to Val Gardena and its rich skiing heritage. In 2031, the roles will reverse as our emerging athletes will have the unique opportunity to compete in a World Championship on home soil.
“We are ready,” declared Rainer Senoner, head of the World Cup races in Val Gardena, following the announcement.
We eagerly anticipate a magnificent celebration of winter sports in Val Gardena.
